Why I Made this Website
Beach Clean Up
My name is Gavin and I am ten years old. I love the ocean and everything that lives in it. I didn't know the ocean was in trouble until I read that there are more than 46,000 pieces of plastic waste in every square mile of the world's ocean. I started reading more about the ocean and also learned that fourteen billion pounds of trash are dumped into the ocean every year and forty percent of all sea life has been destroyed over the last 25 years. This made me very sad and I wanted to find a way to help.
I want everyone to know there are ways we can help our ocean. I wanted to make a simple, easy way for kids and grown-ups to learn about some of the problems in the oceans and things we can all do to stop them. Please read my website and try some of the solutions you find here. Then pass it on! I hope you will help us, so we can rescue the ocean.
Thanks for rescuing our oceans,
About My Mom
My name is Colleen and I help Gavin on his journey to rescue our oceans. Although I have always loved the ocean I was unaware of many of the problems it faces until Gavin began educating me. His passion, the idea for this website and the content selected is his own. I act as occasional editor and head cheerleader.
I am inspired by Gavin and his desire to keep our ocean safe and healthy. I hope as you visit this site you will be inspired as well.
I also hope you will join my Facebook page to get updates and keep helping our oceans!

My sustainable seafood video is the winner of the One World One Ocean Go Fish! Video Contest. You can view my winning video below.
Some great articles were written about me in Examiner.com. I had fun answering the interview questions. You can read them here.
I am making a short stop motion movie that will teach about the problems in our oceans. There will be a lesson plan to go with the movie and it will all be available here on my website. I think this will be a fun way for kids, and hopefully some adults too, to learn about helping the ocean.

$5,000 donation check to Surfrider
Because of Rescuing the Ocean I was picked as the Grand Prize Winner in the 2010 Nick Jonas "Give Back. Simple Wins." essay contest. Bayer Healthcare donated $5,000 to the Surfrider Foundation in my name. I also got to meet Nick Jonas in L.A. and meet the cool volunteers at the Newport Beach Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.
Check out the Surfrider Foundation at www.surfrider.org. and see pictures from the beach clean up on my How I'm Helping page.
